Gardengate Knit Sew & Craft originally started trading online back in 2004 selling Robin and Wendy knitting wool, Whitecroft knitting needles and some knitting equipment (the logo on display in our Contact Us website page is the very first logo we created!). We quickly expanded our range of products and progressed to having two websites. Many of our original customers from 2004 are still shopping with us today, how is that for loyalty!
We have an extensive clientele that includes film, television, stage and theatrical production companies, theatres, well known fashion designers, dressmakers, schools, upholsterers, universities, craft businesses, flag bunting manufacturers, workwear apparel companies, laundry companies and kite makers. Gardengate Knit Sew & Craft is regularly featured in UK sewing, cross stitch and craft magazines. We have built up a solid reputation for quality products and good, old-fashioned service, and we are proud to have a large customer base of returning buyers. We put our heart and soul into our family business and we truly love what we do (we hope it shows) and enjoy bringing our customers the finest products available, and we are especially proud of our wide range of gorgeous narrow fabrics (one of the best, if not the best, selection of cotton bias binding, here in the UK). Kent is a beautiful place to visit, live and work. Kent is famous for its abundance of orchards, vineyards, lavender fields, fruit & vegetable farms and hop gardens, and is also known as the Garden of England. Here you will find wonderful open countryside, beaches, historic houses, scenic steam-train railways, and castles. Well known places of interest include Hever Castle (childhood home of Anne Boleyn), Bedgebury National Pinetum & Forest, Downe House (home of Charles Darwin), Chartwell (family home of Sir Winston Churchill), Knole House (birthplace of novelist and poet Vita Sackville West), Canterbury Cathedral, The Marlowe Theatre, Teston Country Park (great for kite flying, picnics and watching the pleasure boats sailing by on the River Medway), Dover Castle (secret underground wartime tunnels), Turner Contemporary Gallery at Margate, and Leeds Castle near Maidstone. Much of the Battle of Britain during World War II was fought in the skies over Kent and the area also became known as Doodle Bug Alley in wartime, due to the high number of V1 flying bombs that fell over parts of Kent.
